Dear Sir:-

Yours of the 27th ult. has been received, which I read with some interest. I observe there is a growing desire among many persons not of our faith to become better acquainted with the principles taught by the Latter day Saints and since the completion of the Pacific Railroad we have a great many visitors.

You ask the question, whether you would meet with a hearty welcome, were you to come amongst after a more careful <investigation> & become a preacher of our faith?

Most assuredly, we welcome every lover of truth who is disposed to rally to the standard of Christ and strives to keep his commandments.

You further ask for information on some of the peculiarities of our religion. In a few days a Pamphlet will be printed giving a comprehensive view of the faith & doctrines of the Latter day Saints. when it is ready, I will mail you a copy and this will give you a better idea of our views, probably, than a letter would.

You will observe that the prominent peculiarity of our religion is faith in Jesus Christ. We illustrate the by a practical application of his teachings & so far manifest by our works that we are truly his disciples. Many regard Polygamy as our chief peculiarity but this is not so, from the fact that the revelation concerning Plurality of Wives was given many years after the Church was organized, and hence, was <forms> no part of the original superstructure; whereas, tens of thousands embraced the Gospel on the basis of faith in Jesus Christ and his revelations, past, present and future.

I sincerely trust that you may find enlightenment in the pursuit of your investigations, ever bearing in mind the Saviour's admonition:-- "Seek ye the Kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you."
