Dear Bro:-

Yours of 3rd inst is received. Enclosed is advice of all my drafts on you to date.

On the 3rd inst. We forwarded to W. C. Staines to the credit of Liverpool Office $4000.00 On the 9th inst do do $5000.00 At this date do do $2000.00 which is all the money we can raise at present. On the 27th of July I forwarded list of persons whom I have promised to bring out this season, and I do wish for the time to come that the Liverpool Office would let me have the privilege of bringing out those I have promised before the funds are used to assist others; and afterwards the judgment and discretion of others could be exercised to bring out those deemed worthy if there be any funds still to spare for that purpose.

It seems from the Cash statement contained in your letter of 3rd inst, that you are very short of money, and have no means whatever to forward those that I have ordered to be brought out, many of whom have paid here a considerable share of their emigration, and if you can borrow 4 or 5 thousand Pounds at a low rate of interest, say at 3 or 4 per cent per annum, you are at liberty to do so for 12 months, so as to forward those persons ordered out by me. In relation to receiving money here for Drafts, we issue drafts for the amount paid in, and when reference is made to the expense of such families as receive drafts getting to Liverpool, the general reply is that they must help themselves so much, the general feeling being to send the least amount that will enable them to come through, and if those who send drafts, send as they frequently do, a few pounds too little, the Liverpool Office is not called upon to advance anything, but would in most cases retain the use of the money until sufficient is sent, which would most always be the case after a while as those friends are in continual correspondence.

Your brother,

Brigham Young
