Dear bro:-

Enclosed please find Dft No 3213 of even date drawn by Wells, Fargo & Co on their house in New York, endorsed to you, for Five Thousand (5000) Dollars Currency. You had better I presume remit money to the Liverpool Office by purchasing a Sterling draft on some house in Liverpool or London and sending it to bro. Carrington, unless he finds means of drawing on you. You should by inquiry ascertain the cheapest method of getting the money safely into bro. Carrington's hands, and arrange it between you as to how it shall be done, so that he will not draw on you after you have remitted to him what you can. In other words not work at cross purposes, but rather than incur such probability, have recourse to the telegraphic cable. If he can in L'pool sell a sight draft on you, at par, getting the money in Lpool at once, it would be cheaper than for you to buy and send him a draft which would cost you probably 1 per cent, as you had better buy at a sight than take a 60 or 90 day dft as it may not be so reliable nor suit bro Carrington so well. He writes that he is very short of money, and it cannot be otherwise as he has used £3000. to assist the poor, of money which was sent to meet the Presidents drafts, and on the arrival of our List of Person's to be helped at Lpool, he was destitute of any means to forward them, but it will all come out right, as we telegraphed him to send them on, and that we had sent you Twenty Thousand Dollars, and I recommend you not to forget that you can ask him a question at any moment and get a good understanding, whenever there may be a necessity for using the cable, as the rates are now pretty low.

The accompanying Remittance makes equal to about $25120.00 Currency which we have sent, counting the $1200. gold @ 135.

With an expression of sincere regard for yourself and bro George, I remain

Truly your friend & brother
