Jno. P. Taggart Esq.,
Assessor United States Internal Revenue, District of Utah, Salt Lake City.

Sir:-

On my return from Ogden last evening I received your communication of the 25th inst which I hasten to answer.

You state that as I have failed to comply with your instructions of the 18th ult. the law requires that I appear at your office with the books &c.

Permit me in reply to say that I received no instructions of that date. I infer however that you have reference to instructions which I received dated 19th ult. and which were fully complied with, as the return was duly made and delivered to Assistant Assessor Mr Morris on the 26th ult. which was within the ten days allowed by the regulations. It was correct and I trust will be satisfactory to you.

Respectfully,

Brigham Young
