Dear Sir:-

Yours of the 16. has been received. It is impossible in a brief letter to give you much information on the points you allude to, I will therefore content myself by simply answering your questions in detail & respectfully refer you for further information to some of our Elders, quite a number of whom will start for the U. S. about the middle of October 1st.-- We do not live as one family, having everything in common, but are as distant in that respect, as other families anywhere.

2nd.-- It is not expected to donate one tenth of their income for Church purposes, called Tithing

4th.-- Any man who is a believer may be baptized whether married or single; very many of our people <here> have but one wife.

5th.-- In answer to your last question, I mail you "Protestant Clergyman's views on Polygamy" & will refer you still further to a treatise on that subject just published at Boston (price $1.25. postage free) by James Campbell. 18 Fremont Street.

Trusting you will find the above satisfactory & that your mind may be enlightened in the search for truth.

Yours with respect

Brigham Young
