Dear Sir:-

Yours of the 9th inst. for information whether any change has occurred in the level of Salt Lake since the Settlement of this Country, has been received.

It has been observed that in the last fifteen years, the Salt Lake has risen between twelve & thirteen feet. It commenced to recede about the 20th July last, & has fallen since that time, to the present fifteen inches.

We look with some interest for the publication of Professor King's report which will doubtless throw some light on this subject as well as on others of great scientific importance. The Mr. King I allude to is associated with the U. S. Geo. Explo. 40th Par. & has made, I understand, minute observations on every point of interest.

I regret to say the "Reports" you allude to, have not been recd.

Yours with respect
Brigham Young
