C. C. Nichols Esqr.
Uintah.

Dear Sir:--  Reports have reached this Office, that you are charging Missionaries' Wives & other Ladies, whose names are on the list $51.20/100). I scarcely credit this, but cannot contradict it. If it is true, it is contrary to the understanding circulated among our people as obtained from Mr. Colton's letter to Prest. Young under date of 4th Oct. This letter was written in answer to one from Prest. Young to Col.

C. J. Hammond, from which I will make the following extract:--  "We are sending out a number of Missionaries to the U. S. this fall, many of whom are poor, they would like to know upon what terms could charter second-class cars from Ogden to Omaha. When the Pasenger Tariff is sufficiently reduced, there are very many of our people who will visit their friends in the east, who at present cannot afford to do so."

Col. Hammond referred to Mr. Colton, who wrote as follows:  "Our agent at Uintah has been instructed to furnish tickets to Omaha for your people, in parties of 30 or more on Emigrant trains at the reduced rate of $30.75/100. In all cases a list must be furnished the Agent -- and all the party be ready to embark together."

Now the fact is, those ladies have been induced to visit their friends because of the reduced rates, but, if charged $51.20 while travelling "in parties of 30 or more"-- with "a list furnished" & "all ready to embark together" they must view it as a breach of contract.

I shall take pleasure in correcting the report, publicly, as soon as advised.

Yours with respect

D. McKenzie Se.
Prest. B. Young.
