Mr. Joseph Birch,
Washington.

Dear Bro:-

Yours of the 5th. ult. was received and read to the President; he remarked, "tell Bro. Birch to stick to the Manufacture of Cotton cloth let them keep their woollen."

I deferred writing then, till I saw Bro Cumming and had him speak with the President, but after all Bro James declares he cannot furnish you yarn short of $2.00 per lb. & would much rather not do it at that. I therefore write you just as the Prest. said it.

Winter has given us a touch of her quality. & bodes a severe season. The President started for Ogden this <yesterday> morning on Railroad business. All is well here so far as I learn & peace reigns, at least among the well disposed.

Your brother in the Gospel

D. McKenzie Sec.
Prest. B. Young
