Dear Sir:-

Yours of the 10th inst. for certain information has been received.

The first settlement of our people here was commenced July 24, 1847.

The present population of Utah Territory is not definitely known, but we estimate it at about 150,000 souls.

I was born in Whitingham, Windham Co. State of Vermont, June 1. 1801.

I mail you to-day two historical discourses delivered here by Mr. George A. Smith, which will afford you some details of the Settlement of Utah & the progress of our community, which I trust will prove satisfactory.
