KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS,
That I, Brigham Young, Governor of the Territory of Utah, do hereby constitute and appoint the Honorable John M. Bernhisel, the present Delegate in Congress from the Territory aforesaid, my true, sufficient and lawful attorney, for me and in my name, and for my use and benefit; to receive from the Government of the United States of America, my salary as such Governor, and as Ex-officio Superintendent of Indian Affairs, within and for said Territory, likewise the Contingent fund that has been, or may be appropriated for the use of the Governor thereof, which has accrued and which is unpaid, or that may accrue, and when so paid to Receipt for the same, and thereof fully discharge the Government, by release under Seal or otherwise, as may be deemed most Satisfactory to the Officers having charge of the management and payment of business of the kind: all which my said Attorney shall do in the premises. I hereby ratifying and confirming to the same effect in law or equity, as if I were personally present, and did the same myself.

Be it remembered that on the Twenty Sixth day of August, A. D. Eighteen Hundred and Fifty three, befor<e> me William I. Appleby, of the District Judge of the first Judicial District within and for said Territory personally appeared the foregoing named Brigham Young and acknowledged the Sealing of the aforesaid Power of Attorney to be his voluntary act.
