Dear Sir:

Your favor of the 6th inst. has been received. Since your visit to me the other day, and upon the receipt of your letter, I have reflected on the subject alluded to.

Such a company if managed in a wise, prudent and systematic manner would contribute in no small degree to the development of the resources of the Territory. A properly organized system of mining is infinitely preferable to an indiscriminate waste of unorganized capital and labor. We have endeavoured to carry out this idea in our agricultural and manufacturing interests, as well as in our mercantile business with considerable success.

I would propose, however, that the company be composed of nine persons, five of which I shall have the nominating; with a view to retaining the controling interest in this Territory.

If this proposition should meet your approval, we can proceed to nominate the members of this company without further delay.

Thanking you for the courtesy you have done me the honor to extend to me and hoping for your early reply, I remain, Dear Sir,

Yours Respectfully.
Brigham Young
