Nebraska City. Neb.

Gentlemen, Yours of the 24th ult. was received on the 10th inst., which would seem to indicate an unusual delay in transmission.

With regard to the subject matter of your letter, I have only to say as I did, in substance, in my last to you, I am always willing to pay my just debts, but I am not disposed to pay claims that I do not owe. As before stated, I have Mr. John T. Caine's testimony and Mr. William W. Riter's also, that they paid you and took your receipt, for services rendered on this case some years ago, since which time I cannot learn that you were authorized to act for me, in the premises.

As to the judgment going against me, that may be; it is a very easy matter when men are not particular under Oath. By procuring false witness I could obtain judgment against any person in the world. But the weakness of the suit is evident, when, as you say, you can defend it with a certainty of success.

I do not feel disposed to take any action in the case as I know nothing about it whatever, further than what I have learned from yourselves within the last few years. It is a mere allegation against me for I never had any such business transaction as is made to appear.

Yours with respect
Brigham Young
