Gen. Rufus Ingalls.

Dear Sir,

Permit me the liberty of introducing to your favorable consideration my son Willard Young, who is about to enter the Academy at West Point.

He is young and inexperienced in Society, and, of course, knows very little as yet, about the Institution. Will it be asking too much of you, to give him such instruction and advice as you may deem neccessary? I feel assured that you will find him neither ungrateful nor unworthy.

For any service rendered, or courtesy extended to him, I will consider it an act of personal friendship.

Joseph A. Young, my eldest son accompanies him to New York, with whom, I presume you are accquainted.

Yours with respect
Brigham Young
