Supt. Richards Iron Works, Chicago, Ill.

Dear Sir,

Your telegram of May 13. as follows: "Everything favorable, reserve ground and building subject to letter this mail" also, letter of the same date have been received.

We have held the ground in question, for you, up to this time, in accordance with an understanding that you might have it on a ten years lease at an annual rental of $3000.00

For my own part I have so much else to do, and existing circumstances are such, that it would be next to impossible for me to engage in it; neither do I know any of our people with the necessary amount of capital free to invest. As to Mr. B. Young Jr. he has gone from home, to Soda Springs, and I cannot answer for him. Still I would like very much to see the works started here.

If on the receipt of this you will be kind enough to say whether you will require the premises, I will wait your answer. And in the mean time, accept my thanks for the courtesy you have done me, and rest assured of my good will and interest with you, in this and every other enterprise calculated to promote the welfare of the community.

Yours with respect
Brigham Young
