President's Office,
May 30. 1871.

Mrs Emira Tufts
8th Ward.

Dear Sister:

I have just received another letter from your daughter Elizabeth stating her low
circumstances and the necessity for immediate and permanent relief. She admits having received $10. last week, 8 of which she had to pay for rent. She should not be permitted to suffer. She states she is willing to waive the law, but she must have support.

We wish you to make her a monthly allowance from the estate to be paid to her regularly and avoid any further trouble. If you do not feel like adopting this course, it will be necessary to have the matter referred to the High Council or else brought before the Probate Court and a division of the estate made so that she can have a maintenance.
