Dr. Rider,
Pachaco, Contra Costa Co. Cal.

Dear Sir,

Your letter arrived here, during the Prest's absence on a somewhat lengthy trip, however I will bring it to his notice on his return. With regard to settling in Central America, I do not know what we may do in the future, but this & similar suggestions have been so often made to him & so uniformly declined that I am safe in believing he would rather build up this Territory than direct his energies in that quarter.

Ezra Thomson's name is like a household word, but strange as it may appear, I have found no one as yet who can tell me where he resides, though I expect the President will know.

He is looked for on the 24th inst.
Yours with respect

D. McKenzie
Secty Prest. B. Young
