Elder D. M. Stuart
Omaha, Neb.

Dear Bro:

Your favor of the 29th July has been received. We were pleased to hear from you, & have always welcomed the receipt of your letters at this office. With regard to your returning home now, you have my free consent. Your letter was read to me in the hearing of Prests. Smith & Wells, & your proposal to return home, also met with their approval.

Elder H. G. Parkes' company reached here all right at 10, this morning. The weather continues remarkably warm & dry, & as a consequence the water for irrigation is generally very scant. The Wheat crop, however, is above the average of late years, & the corn & Potatoes, where not too dry are likely to do very well. Work continues briskly on the Utah Southern R. R. We have passed the bridge across Little Cottonwood, (A bridge over 600 ft long,) nearly 2 miles, & expect to be at Dry Creek towards the end of next week. A station has been located on the road where we will receive ore & other freight from Bingham & Little Cottonwood. The railroad will prove of immense advantage in freighting rock for the Temple, & to further facilitate this work we contemplate putting a Road Steamer, which is now here, on the road between the quarry & the station. Peace reigns here within our borders notwithstanding the efforts of our enemies to disturb it, & the work is still onward, slowly but surely.

Elder Briant Stringam departed this life at the Church Farm, this morning after a short but severe illness of some 4 days. Thus another good man has passed away, & in this we have another reminder of the uncertainty of human existence.

Praying that you may be preserved to return in safety & hoping to see you soon.

Your Brother in the Gospel.
