Dear Sir,

Your communication of July 11, to Prest. B. Young concerning the establishment of Gas & Water works reached here while he was absent home, and by some means got mislaid.

We have had similar letters at the rate of about one every two weeks for upwards of two years. So far as concerns the introduction of gas works; ours is so scattered & the streets are so wide & would involve such a prodigious of piping, that it is believed the returns would not warrant the outlay. It intended to start water works & the city authorities have the matter in hand Whether they have arranged the modus operandi I cannot tell, but if you feel disposed to write to the Mayor on the subject it might prove to your interest

Yours with respect
D McKenzie Secty Prest B. Young
