Dear Bro:

Your welcome favor of the 13th inst. was duly received. Many thanks for your well wishes. I read your letter to Bro. George A. and Bro Wells who join with me in returning your well wishes. I am happy to say my health is good, and that of the brethren with whom we mostly associate, for which we all feel very thankful. Notwithstanding the incessant howlings of our enemies, now backed by two daily papers here, and one in Corinne, all is peace, and we expect to continue in the enjoyment thereof, so long as we continue faithful in the service of our God.

Active developments are on the increase here, in almost every branch of industry. Buildings, some of them quite elegant, are running up as if by magic. Capitalists and Speculators are flocking in -- many of whom are mere adventurers without means, while others represent large interests, and as the latter are generally conservative men who prefer good order and peace to strife and politics, their presence and their money may not prove unseasonable.

The U. S. Railroad is steadily advancing southwards and an effort will be made to prosecute the grading to Provo before hard winter sets in. In view of the prosecution of this enterprise, it may be well to agitate the subject of carrying it through san Pete, on a narrow guage, say from Payson or Nephi, if the brethren wish it; it can be done, and there is no question but it will prove of immense advantage. As you will see by the papers the "Utah Northern" is about to be built. A company has been formed in Cache Co. and stock subscribed to build a line of road connecting with the C. P. by Willard and Brigham cities thence through the chief settlements in Cache and from there to Soda Springs. The people are exceedingly spirited in the enterprise, parties of surveyors are already in the field, and sawmills are engaged getting out the ties, the money for rolling stock and rails will be forthcoming, as it has already been volunteered, so that the completion of this road, in the ordinary course of Providence is only a question of time. Now we would like to know what you can do in Sanpete.

To night we are having a dance in the 14th Ward Assembly rooms, (the Social Hall being used for educational purposes) to which heads of Departments who are accessible have been invited and a few gentiles. We would have been pleased to have you with us had you been in the city.

With regard to the favor you ask concerning Bro Bartholomew viz: to tell him that he is forgiven and that he has the privilege of the Priesthood and the ordinances of the House of God. I have spoken with Bro. George A and Bro. Wells and we are willing that Bro: Bartholomew be received.

May Heaven's blessings continue to attend you.
