Dear Sir,

Yours of the 20th ult. was duly received. I was well pleased to hear from you, as were others to whom I had your letter read, who were familiar with our affairs in '45. Mr. George A. Smith is one of those; he is a cousin of the Prophet Joseph Smith, and my first counsellor, and Church Historian. Mr. Smith procured and shewed to me yesterday, your original letter to me of May 27./45. which with all similar documents are carefully preserved. I shall be gratified to have you call and see us here when you cross the Continent, there are many things we can talk about relative to that period, as well as events that have transpired since, which may not prove un-interesting.

I will be away from home, from October till the latter part of April, on our annual trip to Southern Utah; should you arrive a little earlier, I hope you can find it convenient to remain till we return. And I have no doubt you will find much that may serve to compensate for the time you spend among the Latter-day-Saints in their interesting mountain home.

Yours very respectfully.
Brigham Young

P. S. I send you by mail, a pamphlet containing much useful information also a supplement to the "Deseret News," containing your letter &c.
