Oliver Ames, Esqr.

Dear Sir,
Yours of the 9th inst. has been received. With regard to the loan in question, on my last visit to Boston I entered into an agreement with Mr. Rollins to the following effect:-- The interest on the entire loan, viz: $200.00. was to be paid in one payment, on the 29th Oct. being the average date of the notes. The payment was to be made in Boston. Since my return, however, I wrote to Mr. Rollins inquiring whether payment might be made at Omaha instead of Boston, & received the following in reply:-- "Yours of the 16th is received, and I note your remarks with reference to the payment of six months on $200.000 averaging due, Oct. 29, 1871. It will be quite agreeable to us if you should pay the amount to Mr. Sickels, the Supt. of our road as you propose, giving us due notice thereof. (Signed) E. H. Rollins."

My object in changing the place of payment, was merely to save the price of exchange, which is half of one per cent. here. As it appears from your letter, you were not accquainted with these facts, and to avoid putting you in any inconvenience, I will forward to Mr. Rollins, next mail, a check to cancel the interest on notes for $100.000 first due, which I trust with this explanation will prove satisfactory, and at the same time explain why the interest due on the first not was not paid according to date.

Yours with respect
John Sharp
