Elder Claudius V. Spencer,

Dear Brother:-

I received your letter yesterday. Contents noted. The circumstances under which anything of the kind was said by me were when something was said about a letter that had been written by you to the mother of your sister lately deceased, and one person said apologetically for you in relation thereto, (as is not altogether unfrequently done among our people) well I should think that Claudius must be crazy to write so, to which I replied -- yes I should think so. It has as you will doubtless remember been a common saying that 'every one is crazy on some point' and if that point should in you really have been discovered, instead of only referred to in an offhand, half serious manner, you would even then be no worse than all other persons are sometimes said to be. I would recommend you brother Claudius, to take good care of your health, do not worry, trust in the Lord of Hosts, live your religion, and all will be well.

Praying that the Blessings of Israel's God may rest upon you
I remain your brother
Brigham Young
