Dear Bro:

Your letter to the Prest. arrived in time for him to read, before he started on his annual trip to the south. He made a remark like this, "acknowledge the receipt of this, and ask him for particulars about the fires." Your box arrived, I believe, though we have no direct advice about it, but I heard a few days ago that something of the kind had been sent to St George by H. B. Clawson.

At last accounts the Prest's health was much improved & I trust if they will only let him stay through the winter that he will be quite recovered by the spring. An effort is being made to declare his bonds forfeited and his persecutors may succeed in getting the $5000. (although I doubt it) still it looks very disgraceful for the Court, after promising ample time, not to allow even 2 weeks as was requested by his council, but insisted that 1 week was enough, when he was then over 400 miles away and in a very rough country. You will perceive, however, that this action is in perfect harmony with other proceedings of this infamous Jefferies, an unscrupulous, fanatical villain who pays no regard to either law or justice. You are doubtless anxious to know how we feel about matters and things, I can only assure you <(of)> this, we trust in God, and unless he fails us, we are certain to come out at the top of the heap. We have had very stormy weather in the northern portion of the Territory for over 8 days. 6 feet of snow lies on the level in Wellsville Kanyon and from 1 to 4 feet in several towns.

If you have any communication to make to the Prest, with regard to the fires, or on any other subject, I will forward it to him with great pleasure.

Your Bro. in the Gospel
D. McKenzie
