Mr. Richard Ballantyne,
Ogden.

Dear Bro:-- Your favor of 1st inst. came duly to hand; and bro. John Smith is going up to see you again about his land matters. I do not know whether or not you gave a proper quit claim deed to bro. C. W. West, but there has not been anything of the kind placed on the records. Chauncey's deed to me is duly recorded in my favor, but your deed to him does not appear on the records, and there is almost no probability of any such deed being found now after this lapse of time. If it were however it would only confirm the title to me, and if you choose, you might sign a quit claim to me for that piece you sold Chauncey, and sign a separate deed for the corner, and I could make both over to bro John Smith. You only signed your name in a book of property donated to the Fund, for the corner 50 ft square, but gave no deed; hence it is correct for you to sign a quit claim for the corner, and I have had a deed filled out accordingly. The object that bro John has in view being to place the records straight, so that he can get the deed from the City in the Fee Simple, without there being any question raised as to his title to the half lot, it being originally put to your name and there being no record of your having transferred it, and as you are aware that I bought that piece from Chauncey. There can be only good and no harm or hazard in your signing a quit claim to me for both pieces; and it seems to be about the only way left now to complete the records.
