John C. Barr, Esqr.
Sec. Consolidated Gas Co. Pittsburgh.

Dear Sir: Yours of Feb. 10. to Hon. W. H. Hooper, on the subject of establishing gas works in this city, was received here a few days ago after some detention in the blockade. Mr. Hooper submitted it to Prest. Young for his consideration, and I have been instructed to inform you that the corporation of S. L. City, of which D. H. Wells, Esqr. is Mayor, has had the subject of introducing gas into this city for some time, they are now in correspondence with different parties, but I am not aware that anything definite has yet been concluded

It is a matter, however, with which the Prest. has <not> anything to do, and your best course, probably, would be to bring the matter directly before the Mayor.

Yours with respect
D. McKenzie
Sec. Prest. B. Young.
