Elder George Q. Cannon.

Dear Brother.
Enclosed you will find a letter for Attorney General Williams which we will be
pleased to have you deliver to him in person, of which the accompanying is a copy, and will
explain itself.
We have no doubt that Bro. Hooper will be rigidly opposed to his appointment, but this is
a matter of no consequence, we would like you to urge it. We are informed that Judges Williams
& Kinney are old accquaintances having been in the same law office together. As Kinney is not
one of the party: there may be strong objections to his appointment on that ground, but it must be
admitted that he is not an active politician, while he actually is a sound jurist, and what Utah
requires is not a political, nor a missionary judge, but a sound jurist, well versed in both Federal
and Territorial law, and perhaps there is no man better qualified to heal the sores created by the
present incumbent than the gentleman named.
My health continues good for which I feel very thankful, Bros. Geo. A. Bro Wells & the
brethren with whom we associate are generally well.
We would be pleased to have you remember your promise to write us the news every
night, or at least, as soon as you have anything of importance to communicate.
Remember me to Bro. Hooper, Messrs. Fitch & Fuller & their ladies. We expect to write
a general news to Bro. Hooper about Monday.
It is a sign of the times worthy of notice that Walker Bros. & other disaffected spirits who
have hitherto refused to pay City taxes, licenses &c. are now coming up to the scratch, meekly
and humbly paying up.
May peace be with you and the blessings of heaven attend your labors.
Your Bro. in the Gospel
