Dear Sir,

This will introduce to you Lieut. Richard L. Hoxie of the corps of engineers connected with the U.S. Exploration under the direction of Lieut. Geo. M. Wheeler. The former gentleman is desirous of procuring a guide for his party through the country south and west to Sevier Lake.

I have recommended you, as a proper person to act in that capacity, and would be pleased to have you (business permitting.) engage with the expedition and render them all the aid in your power.
