W.T.M. Hogg, Esq.
P.O. London St. Edinburgh.

Sir: Yours of 29th July to Prest. B. Young was duly received.

He instructed me to refer you to Albert Carrington, Esqr. 42, Islington, Liverpool, who is the Prest. of the Church in Europe. and under whose supervision our Church works are published in England. Mr. C. will be pleased to furnish you with the desired pamphlets &c. and would probably instruct some one of our Elders to call upon you, if so desired.

With regard to your queries. The drinking of all intoxicating liquors is rigidly discountenanced among our people, but no oaths are exacted in the premises, and the same applies, in a degree, to the use of animal food, particularly swine's flesh. I would suggest for your reading "Orson Pratt's Pamphlets;" "Orson Spencer's Letters"; "Parley P. Pratt's Voice of Warning" do. "Key to Theology." "Orson Spencer's Patriarchal Marriage," I believe all of these can be procured of Mr. Carrington. and the price is not high.

I am a native of Edinburgh, and resided there until 1852, then 19 years of age. I removed to Glasgow, and from there to this place. Yours is the first letter I have seen from Edin. since I left Scotland, and I naturally feel some interest in the old place. My apprenticeship was served with David Nimmo, Engraver, 3 East Register St. My near and dear friend was Wm. Edmonstone, a shopmate, of whom I have no trace. He had one or more brothers, Alexr. was one, a solicitor <in Edinb.>. I do not take the liberty of asking you to make inquiries as to the persons named, still such information even as a Directory might give you, would be thankfully received.

Yours with respect

David McKenzie
Sec. Prest. B. Young.
