Dear Sir, Your favor of the 16th. inst. was received and its contents noted and duly appreciated.

Your suggestion with regard to the Utah Central Railroad is a good one, we value the road highly, and have no disposition to sell it.

You are doubtless aware that we are building an extension of the U.C. south, although the work is measurably suspended now for the lack of capital. This road promises to pay even better than the other. How far we shall go with it, and how fast we shall prosecute the work, will depend on the amount of capital we can raise, but we apprehend no difficulty in that respect, now that the road is becoming known, and we look towards running to Pioche, or in that neighbourhood.

The proposed new road from the "Kansas Pacific" east of Denver to Utah Lake Valley will doubtless prove a great benefit to the section of country it traverses, and from the agricultural and mineral resources of that country, ought I think to ensure a paying road, if properly managed.

We will certainly hail the connection, when it is made as a great benefit to our Territory, and although we may not have the money to aid you in the building of the proposed road we have the labor and the supplies in abundance, and we hope to do much for the development of our country.

With sentiments of great respect, I remain,

Yours,
Brigham Young
