Pres't B. Young
Dear Brother;
Enclosed please find letter from Heber Young Soda Springs also from C. W.
Thornton, Ogden; and as you did not leave any autographs I forward three solicitations
therefor. Weather remains mild though cold at night. Miners Journal agitating the subject of
the meeting of the Legislature, I presume the main object is to give the Governor an
opportunity of reiterating Grant's message in the ears of the faithful and furnish him and
the secretary further opportunity for pickings & stealings in case Congress should be
liberal enough to appropriate money to defray the expenses. Bro. Ridges is busily engaged
about the plans of your house. Bro. A. P. Rockwood intends going east, shall we set him
apart and give him a certificate as a missionary according to his wish, he intends leaving a
week from to day. Usual quiet prevails in the City. Have made arrangement for and will
send you the items of interest by telegram. Do you think that the City Council should grant
a right of way to any company to construct a railroad from the depot to Camp Douglas? I
do not think much of the investment, it is possible it may altogether fail, but they are
sanguine not only about the feasibility of the road, but the means to construct it; if the right
of way can be obtained.
Bp Herrick thinks the property offered in bro Thornton's letter is very cheap, it being
immediately on the spur of the Railroad suitable for the proposed object.
I am happy to learn of your improved health also of the General's, we will have that
bonfire yet, if he has not lost his supports.
All Well.
