John W. Young, Esqr.

My Dear Son:

As you are about to start for England to negotiate, sell or dispose of the Utah Central and Utah Southern Railroad Companies bonds belonging to me, I wish to impress upon your mind the necessity of strictly confining yourself to that business, unless you shall be instructed otherwise hereafter.

This is your first visit to England on such business and I hope you will be wise and discreet in the management of it.

Should any influences be employed to direct your attention to business other than the above, pay no regard to them, further than making memoranda for future consideration.

Preserve a steady, calm and deliberate demeanor and shew that you are master of yourself.

Do the business assigned you as promptly as circumstances will permit and return as soon as completed.

Elder James T. Little will accompany you for at least a portion of the time, and render you all the assistance in his power.

It will be right for you to make any exchanges to your advantage, of outside Stock and Bonds in said Railroads, provided, that such exchanges, shall in nowise interfere with your duties as specified.

May you be preserved to return in peace and safety, having accomplished the work assigned to you with success.

Your affecionate Father
Brigham Young
