Dear Nephew, Yours of the 12th inst. was duly recd. I was pleased to hear from you and the folks, and should you conclude to come west you must be sure and make us a visit.

My son John W. has gone to England on a short business trip. He is the Prest. of one of the Railroads here called the Utah Northern. It is a narrow guage (3 feet) and commencing at Ogden. 37 miles north of this City, it runs through our northern settlements towards Montana Terry. and is completed for a distance of over 60 miles and still pushing on. There are several railroads now being built in Utah, and although business at present is rather dull, we are making considerable improvements of almost every kind, and the demand for skilled labor which has not hitherto existed to so great a degree, is steadily on the increase. Should you come our here, you will be able to see <& judge> for yourself as to the prospects of settling among us.

Give my love to the folks and accept the same yourself.

Your Affectionate Uncle.
Brigham Young
