Elder James Finlayson,
Payson, Utah Co.

Dear Bro:-Yours of the 1st. inst. received. It does not appear  to us that the sum of £900. divided among 7 persons is of sufficient importance to justify the loss of time and the expense you would naturally incur in making so long a journey. But, if you felt disposed to stay there for a time and preach the Gospel to your relations and others, like the rest of the Missionaries, after attending to the business, we would approve of your going, and set you apart for the Mission.

It is expected of the elders who have gone abroad this Season, that they report themselves at the Liverpool Office. and then, if not assigned to some district, that they will go into new fields of labor and maintain themselves independent of the office; that, you could more readily do than some others, as a part of your expenses is to be paid by your relatives. As
to the time you would be required to stay, that is a matter left to yourself as you may be
dictated.

Your Bro. in the Gospel
Brigham Young
