Dear Brother:--
It is our wish that you should take some four or five men well mounted and explore the country, Kanyons and passes for horses which have been stolen from the citizens of this Territory supposed to be by Indians. We would advise you to be exceedingly cautious not to be seen either by Indians or Mountaineers, that you may not be surprized, it probably will be best to lay by mostly daytimes and frequently change your position.

You are authorized to call upon the Quartermaster and Commissary Departments for such supplies as you may need but our counsel to you is not to burthen your party, either with too much baggage or too many animals.
