Elders G. D. Grant, James Ferguson, and others:--

Dear Brethren:-- Yours of the 6th at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. are at hand with the accompanying document and paper, contents duly noted and your course approved. It will probably be well to call a meeting of tho few male citizens in Great Salt Lake City, who are not actively engaged in the operations necessary for speedy removal and appoint one or more Delegates to call upon His Excellency Governor Cumming and learn his wish and instructions in regard to their waiting upon Commissioners Powell and McCullogh, also upon such other matters as His Excellency may be pleased to offer his suggestions, instructing the Delegation to emphatically inform whomever it may concern, that conferences for a more happy understanding of matters which now are at least so very differently proclaimed, if not by many differently understood, cannot, consistently with the spirit which should actuate American freemen, be held at the bayonet's point and cannon's mouth, and that pending all such conferences and their results, the United States troops ordered to Utah must in strict good faith entirely refrain from advancing any nearer to the settlements in Utah than are the comfortable quarters at Camp Scott.
