Messrs Gilbert & Gerrish,

I have presented the Bill to President Young, left with me by Mr. Gerrish, and he says that it is a matter of which he knows nothing, and considers himself in no way responsible.  But if Mr. Hickman refuses to pay it, and you will abate the Interest, and give a receipt in full, he will assume the principal $387.75 and pay when in funds, say the ensuing week.

Very Respectfully

Yours &c.
