I could answer your question a little better perhaps if you would write and let me know what your means are: this you can do as soon as you please.

I expect you would like to hear the news. There are three stores now open in this city. Calico is 35 per yard and everything else in proportion. We are all doing well here and have no reason to complain. The army hangers on is leaving for California pretty fast, those that are in the city now behave themselves tolerable well considering that they are a drunken set. The people are coming back very fast much faster then they went out and with a great deal better. Well it is all we can do to keep the boys off from them when they get to damning a little just to work off the effect of the whiskey. I hope you are all well in that part of the country and no trouble with the Indians. The people I guess begin to find that the devil is not dead yet. We can all of us see that God is doing his work just as fast as he has a mind to.
