Bishop C. W. West,

Dear Brother:--
Brother John Wiseman, now living in Bishop John Butler's Ward at Spanish Fork, has just called upon me and informs me that he has a claim upon Br. Thomas Obray, in your ward, for one hundred and thirty two dollars and thirty cents ($132.30/100) which he expended for and loaned to one Caroline Brenchley, now the wife of Obray, which sum Obray told br. Wiseman he would pay to him, not only before Obray and Brenchley were married but also at the time they were married and since, but has not as yet paid any thing on his indebtedness to br. Wiseman; and in addition to that put br. Wiseman to the trouble of requesting a hearing of the matter before Bishop Butler, who decided that Obray should pay br. Wiseman the above named sum, which decision Obray refused to comply with.

Such being the circumstances of the case, as related to me, I wish you to inquire into the matter and see that justice is meted out to the parties, or fellowship withdrawn from them.

Your Brother in the Gospel

Brigham Young
