Peter Schattler Esqr.

Dear Sir--
I regret to say that circumstances I had not the power to controll, prevented my prompt meeting the demand you hold against me.

Since my last communication to you, I have safely arrived at my home in this city, and shall embrace the first safe opportunity to remit the money, by exchange or otherwise, and place you in possession of every dollar that is justly due you. In the mean time I shall expect you to settle the Court expenses, which you have caused to be made upon it, which was not in my power to prevent.

Hoping this will be satisfactory to you, when you are placed in possession of your money, which I think will not be later then October next.

I remain Yours most Respectfully

H. S. Eldredge

P. S.
I am requested by Govr. Young to say that in the future, we do not expect to be under the necessity of asking any indulgence on our purchases. We shall need quite a quantity of wagons and shall make Chicago our point for getting them up. We shall want them made on the wide track with Iron axles 1 7/8 inches at the shoulder and 1 5/8 Inches at the point.-- boxes well polished on the inside -- of the best of timber and well seasoned.
