In the case of Simon Baker, for beating and otherwise abusing and mistreating his wife Ann daughter of James Staples.

Before Bishop Edward Hunter and his Counsellors, and which was decided as follows.

That they be separated from each other as husband and wife and that the said Simon Baker allows his divorced wife Ann, the sum of eight hundred dollars. for the benefit and maintenance of herself and three children, payable in Stock forthwith to be appraised by Bishop Edward Hunter, and Bryant Stringham, and the said Stock to be placed in the hands of the said Bryant Stringham, for their benefit and maintenance, as aforesaid, And that she with the children receive all the clothing that have been provided for them by him and others.

Also that she shall keep the child of which he is the Father and bring it up. And further that the said Simon Baker be suspended from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
