Mr. Chas. E. Abbot

Dear Sir:
Your letter of Sept. 27th. is received. In reply:-- James Ferguson Bell died at Mormon Grove, Atchison, Kansas Territory on the 8th of June 1855. His wife died six days previously. He had been a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints eight years, having been baptised in Birmingham, England. He was much respected by all who knew him. He died of Cholera as also did his wife. Proper attention was paid to his interment. At the period of his death it was supposed his mother was in England, and I presume the parties are xxxxxxx the same you inquired after. If so please to offer, though at this late period, my condolence to Mrs. <Bell> on her bereavement, and be assured that I am always ready to give such information as I have or can obtain concerning any of our people.

Very respectfully Yours.
