James Lavender,

Dear Brother:
Your letter, dated Oct. 12th, by hand of bro. Wm. Bateman, is just received.
I am glad to hear that you are recovering from your late sickness, and able to be about again.

Not withstanding considerable cash has been put in circulation among the people lately, very little indeed has found its way into our hands; and, at present, we are not in possession of a dollar, consequently it is not in our power to settle with you just at this time; but as soon as we receive funds, will be most happy to do so, which I expect will be in a short time.

Your Bro. in the Gospel.

Brigham Young
