Dear Brother,
In the enclosed number of the "News" you will see a very substantial contradiction to the lies of various "Special Correspondents." It had to be literally extorted from the parties by Governor Cumming. Make the proper use of it by giving it all possible publicity. The satirical articles on"the great discovery"owes its origin to a trip to Provo bench by a few of our `friends' who contemplate the location of a great rival city at the mouth of Provo Canon. It is said all our Salt Lake merchants are concerned in it. The truth is it is a speculative scheme got up by a few adventurers to make a living for the winter.

All is well with us. The dogs are howling but so far they have howled in vain. We have established a regular police of thorough energetic men who will, I trust, be successful in preserving peace in the City.

Communicate with Dr. Bernhisel on the subject above refered to and see that the dose is efficiently applied in the right place. It is important, if practicable, to have the press controlled in our favor, or at least, the leading journals. Labor to accomplish this as much as possible. We must do our best and God will control all for good. Bros. Kimball and Wells and your numerous friends here all desire a kind remembrance to you & Sister E.
