Gen. C. W. West

Dear Bro.
I sent you three Copies of a Memorial which has already received the signatures of some hundreds of our fellow-citizens. The unconstitutionality of the course recently pursued by the U. S. Judiciary for in this Territory, and their attempts to force upon us a Military despotism, are matters too well known and felt to require rehearsal. I am one of very many who think it full time to remaind His Excellency the Governor of a sacred duty he owes the citizens of Utah.

I would feel obliged if you would employ some of your most energetic friends, at once and in the most effectual manner, to obtain the signatures of all in the Weber and Box Elder Districts who approve the sentiments of the Memorial. I send you sufficient blank paper upon which to receive the signatures. The names should be signed in two columns on one side only, and on either side of the red line in the center. Please to see that there is no delay, as it is important that the Memorial should be placed in Govr. Cumming's hands as soon as possible.

Respectfully
Your bro. & fellow-Citizen

James Ferguson
