Brethren:--
I see not the least impropriety in your at once proceeding to carry out the plan you propose in your letter to me, date March 20; but would not advise you to make a settlement at the proposed point, until you are strong enough to make it reasonably secure against aggressions upon yourselves, your wives, children, crops, herds and other property by ill disposed Indians, that you may not plant and be obliged to pluck up to the loss of all your time and labor, and perhaps of lives. Your own judgements, enlightened by past experience, will be ample for your guidance as to when, where and how to locate and build up your proposed settlement; but common prudence requires, when you make a new settlement, to make it sufficiently strong.

Respectfully, Your Brother in the Gospel,

Brigham Young
