Messrs. E. R. Violett & Co
St Louis, Mo.

Gentlemen:--
On the 12th inst. I received two notes given in your favor, one by S. M. Blair for $276 85/100, and one by Alex[r]. Dow for $75 75/100. I understand that there is no present and not a flattering future prospect that Mr. Dow can pay the note given by him. Mr. Blair has considerable property here, unavailable at present, and some claims upon Government, and says, should business revive here, or the Government liquidate his claims, he will pay your demand against him.

As my business and other duties preclude my giving the proper attention to such matters, please inform me what disposition I shall make of the above named notes. Shall I forward them to you? or shall I place them in the hands of some person here, whom you will name?

Respectfully

Brigham Young
