Sir:--
At a meeting of citizens held in this city on the 2 inst., to make our precinct, county, and Territorial nominations for the general election to be held on the first monday in August next, Genl. Horace S. Eldredge of this city received the unanimous nomination for Delegate to Congress, and Ira Eldredge and Sidney A. Knowlton of this County and chester Loveland of Davis County were unanimously nominated for Commissioners to locate the two Townships donated by Congress to each Territory for university purposes.

Some may deem it more proper, to have selected said Commissioners more at large, but the meeting, taking into consideration the very probable necessity of their having to frequently consult upon their official duties, made selection of the above named highly competent gentlemen whose residences are conveniently near each other.

Of Genl. Eldredge, with whom we believe you are personally acquainted, it is not necessary to write, further than that the unanimity of his nomination evidences the estimation placed by the meeting upon his undoubted fitness for the office under present circumstances. And since it is highly desirable that unanimity of nomination should be followed by corresponding unanimity of vote we take the liberty to ask you, Colonel, to use the influence you are known to possess in Carson County in favor of the election of Genl. Eldredge and the nominees for locating the University lands.

It is presumed that Carson County is organized and conducting its business in accordance with the laws of Utah, and that the inhabitants pay county and Territorial taxes, in common with the inhabitants pay county and Territorial taxes, in common with the inhabitants of other counties who wish a voice and vote in county and Territorial affairs. Be so good to make careful and correct enquiry upon these points, since your friends here, upon your return, will be desirous of correctly learning the conduct, views and feelings of the majority of their neighbors in the western portion of our Territory.
