Bishop C. G. Edwards,
Ephraim,

Dear Brother,

Your favor of the 27th ult. has just been received. You ask me if I think card playing a profitable amusement. I answer, No; it is not profitable; but those who follow it will play themselves out of the Church, unless they stop and take a different course. I do not allow card playing about my own premises, and if my brethren and sisters would follow my counsel, they would never play themselves or countenance others playing.

I remain Your Brother in the Lord,

Brigham Young
