Burr S. Craft, Esq.
Sherman Well, Venango Co., Pa.

Dear Sir:

Your favor of Dec. 8th, 1864, on the subject of the Oil Territory near Sulphur Creek, has been received and perused with interest.

The place which you mention has been taken up by Messrs. Phinehas H. Young and Joseph Young, and some considerable money has been expended by them in their operations there. They had entered into arrangements with a gentleman in New York; but they have not heard anything from him for some time, and the time stipulated by them for the closing of the contract has expired. The prospects for Oil are said to be very good; but through the failure of the party with whom they had made the arrangement not coming forward as he promised, work has been suspended for some little time on the Claim, They have expended about $3000.00/100 in their operations. I presume that negotiations respecting their Oil territory can be entered into with them.

I remain Yours &c.
