President's Office,
G. Salt Lake City,
March 21st, 1865.

President Orson Hyde,
Springtown, Sanpete Co.

Dear Brother,

Your favor of the 15th instant. in which you set forth the adulterous conduct of Lars Larsen with a young woman who lived at his house, has been received this morning.

They should be cut off from the Church, and after they have been cut off long enough, if they wish to be re-baptized, and the brethren who are acquainted with the circumstances are satisfied, they can be admitted again to the rights of fellowship by baptism.

We have had a tedious supplement to our Winter here, during which we had unusually heavy snows, which have been particularly hard on Stock. The lo[missing] of Stock in this neighborhood will be very great; it is to be hoped that this experience, so expensive as it has proved in this instance, will have the effect in the future to make the people more provident in preparing for the wintering their Stock in future. All agricultural operations have been very much retarded by the lateness of the Spring, and the people are, rather impatiently in some instances, awaiting the disappearance of the Snow and frost from the ground, so that they commence putting in their grain. The weather has been more mild for few days past; but it is still cold and backward for the last half of March. [missing] folks on the Bench rave occasionally in their organ; but they keep hands off.

May the Lord bless you in all your labors and enable you to carry out all his purposes, is the prayer of

Your Brother, Brigham Young

P. S. We hope to see you at the approaching Conference. Your season being so backward, and the earth not like to be prepared for cultivation until later, you will be able to come up without your farming interests suffering thereby. With love to yourself  and the brethren
